By Handsome James.
Both new and old versions of John
Deere’s exemplary S690i combine seriously impress me.
It’s the design that really
captures my interest on latter incarnation though. The lighting configuration on
the mk. 2 combined with the open grain tank cover, from the front perspective; appears crown like.
Crown’s
symbolise royalty and definitely denote power! So when these mighty monarchs
were released on their subjects in 2011 its no surprise they claimed the title
of most powerful combine in the world, topping out at 625 horse power.
I think a well designed, dominant
cab can really give an identity to the design and message of a combine.
Don’t forget, these are the
machines that begin the process of putting a lot of your food on the table, so
their importance is to everyone, not just us tractor geeks.
I trawled the internet for
updates of the latest embodiment of the S690i prior to release. It seemed to take
years to finally make it to market!
John Deere I think, wanted an
absolute bomb proof high capacity combine before the second s690 variant went
into production. Reliability is at the heart of any John deere machine and
those bloggers and forum poster’s who stalked the development of this combine
will know it was tested and tested and then… tested.
Here are two useful reviews of
the S690, one form Farmers guardian, the other form Farmers weekly
So can this ‘Kings Stag’ out play
a Lexion? Especially the range topping 780?
Why not check out Jock the Bull’s
review of the mighty Claas?
However I also found the mk 1 John Deer S690i not
too shabby either!
Jock the Bull got a bit snap happy this summer and took a
few pics of one on a neighbouring farm, which he has kindly let me illustrate
its majesty.
Further more, I have added a video I took
from summer 2012 a mk. 1 S690i helping a smaller Deer chomp through some oats!
Front on: The mk2 has regal looks
Jock the Bull: Nice edit on the mk. 1 mate!
Britains 1:32 scale model: Highly detailed
Jock the Bull: Nice angle there on the mk. 1!
2nd pass: Check out the crown coming over the crops!
Mk 1. John Deere S690i - Looking rather handsome ;-)
