By Handsome James.
Good evening! I think I'm slowly starting to hang of this blogging malarky!
Jock tells me that yesterday's post was far to lengthy and wordy. Apparently my writing lacks an interesting tone, a personal style and humour.
Well let me tell you this Jock; I don't need to go affirmation seeking on the internet under the pretence of a boosted field wifi connection which is now accessible in the field. I have a very busy life. you would not believe how many hours I have to spend at the dry cleaners just to look this good!
No Jock you wouldn't, because the to you the process of looking dapper requires a cold hose pipe in the bull pen and maybe a horse brush if you're lucky.
Eleven..... Years old in 1993
The summer of 1993 wasn't just about seeing Jurassic Park three times at the cinema! It was a long hot summer, with no rain delaying play, the heat was rife and crops came in hard and fast. The farm I was living on then had just updated its entire small and mid range tractor fleet. Two large Renaults were responsible for heavy work such as cultivating and ploughing, but the majority of tractoring was done by one model range....
The Ford series 40!
The farm ran 2 6640's, 2 7740's, 4 7840's and 2 8340's! What a fleet! And what a work horse!
Under the Ford guise they were produced from 1992 to 1995 and with New Holland livery, from 195 to 1997.
The link to criteria that I put forward in yesterdays post merely consists of three words:
MADE IN ENGLAND!
Series 40 are all Essex girls! And they were quite glam in their day too!
I used to really enjoy watching these girls banter together in the field as back then you would have at least five on corn cart (servicing three New Holland TX66 combines) in summer and during autumn you would have at least three prepping the field for the following year. Min-til was not really en vogue back then so you would expect to see one ploughing, one cultivating the second pass, one seeding and one rolling!
The first ever tractor a drove was a Ford 7740! From what I remember the cab was nice and spacious and the turning circle was good too!
So lets get down to business, here they are in all their glory.....
Great POV!
Series 40 is always at home on tankers!
I have seen a 7840 out pull an equivalent JD 6400 like for like on a trailed forager
